Arnold Schwarzenegger is synonymous with bodybuilding. In fact, while bodybuilding had been around in some way or another for centuries, it was made popular in the late 1800s, and then it really took off with Schwarzenegger becoming something of a “poster boy” for the sport. Known the world over for his exceptional physique, Schwarzenegger is still considered one of the world’s leading bodybuilders — even almost 40 years after his retirement.

So, how exactly did Arnold get his body into top physical form? While lifting weights and hitting the gym are crucial, what’s just as important is the implementation of a consistent and smart diet. The question then remains: what is Arnold Schwarzenegger’s diet? Let’s find out.

On a weekly basis, Arnold was known to consume the following foods on a daily basis:

Whole eggs

As most of you in the fitness world know, eggs are a major source of proteins. And so, Arnold started his day with at least 3 eggs.

Ezekiel Bread

If you’ve never heard of Ezekiel bread before, then you’ll be certain to pick some up as soon as you’re finished with this article. It’s widely regarded as one of the world’s healthiest variations of bread. With its varied cereal grains, multiple types of legumes and no added sugars, Ezekiel bread is undoubtedly one of the healthiest breads (and foods) that you can eat.

The soluble and insoluble fibers that oats provide are a major reason that Arnold ate them so frequently. Those very fibers also help regulate cholesterol and blood glucose levels.

Sweet Potatoes

You wouldn’t think it from looking at them (or from their name), but sweet potatoes provide a great deal of health benefits. More specifically, sweet potatoes include iron, vitamins B and C, fiber and beta-carotene. That’s one healthy potato.

Arnold was also known to eat a bevy of other foods, like vegetables, brown rice, full fat cottage cheese, fish and various types of meats. But something else that Arnold preached about was the importance of understanding nutrition. Don’t just eat healthily, understand the food going into your body and learn more about the best methods of consuming that food.
