It’s important to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. If you do not, you run the risk of falling victim to several maladies, including diabetes, strokes and several others. Luckily, in today’s technologically driven world, we have devices that can help you monitor your health far easier than you could ten years ago. One of the most popular methods of doing this is through the use of smartwatches. These nifty devices function as watches as well as communicators and health trackers. The sheer advancement of the industry in the past five years alone is fascinating, so I figured I would take a look at what some of the most popular smartwatches on the market can do for your lifestyle in terms of health and fitness.

Apple Watch

It goes without saying that Apple is one of the most profitable companies in the world and that its devices are incredibly popular. With that being said, it should come as no surprise that Apple’s smartwatch, the Apple Watch, is the most popular smartwatch on the market right now. But what is more impressive is what this little device can do. It has the standard features of tracking your heart rate and allowing you to create a specialized workout for yourself. But the device can also count the number of calories you’ve burned, remind you when to stand up and get active and offer motivation in the form of achievements for performing certain activities. The Watch can also store music and pair with wireless headphones so that you can perform your workout and listen to music without having to carry your phone or mp3 player on your person. The Apple Watch also has an incredibly diverse ecosystem of applications made by third-party developers. Companies like Nike and Under Armour offer their own health and fitness applications, while other developers offer apps that can track your diet and remind you when to drink water. There is even an app that reminds you to take a moment a breathe deeply. It’s a fantastic little watch that does way more than just tell time.

Samsung Gear

It should come as no surprise that one of Apple’s competitors in the smartwatch market is Samsung. Samsung offers two different types of wearable devices. They offer the traditional Gear smart watches that perform and act much like the Apple Watch, and the Gear Fit watches. These devices are much more focused on fitness and health tracking. The Gear Fit watches are designed to look like a traditional fitness tracker, featuring a rectangular, vertical display. While they do not offer the same amount of customization as the Apple Watch, they are built a bit sturdier. Much like a smart watch, you can tell time, receive phone calls, texts and notifications, monitor your steps, calories, heart rate and even listen to music from the device. Something that the Gear Fit offers that the Apple Watch does not is a built-in GPS. You can track your location in real-time using the Gear Fit, which is quite impressive for such a small device. The watch also allows for customization of watch faces and backgrounds. One of the Gear Fit’s most appealing features is its ability to work with both Android and iOS devices. The Apple Watch, as is the case with most Apple products, can only work with iOS devices.
Obviously, both of these devices have their pros and cons, and either way you go, you will get a fantastic device. Here is some more information on both the Apple Watch and the Samsung Gear Fit.
